Isaac Hayden McHale is the younger son of American actor, comedian, and television presenter Joel McHale and his wife, Sarah Williams. Although much of the public’s interest in Isaac originally came from his father’s entertainment career, he has now appeared on television himself. His credited appearances in the FOX comedy series Animal Control in 2025 and 2026 offer a stronger reason to discuss his growing connection to the entertainment industry.
Unlike many celebrity-family profiles that focus on speculation about someone’s personal life, Isaac’s story is best understood through documented television credits, family interviews, and occasional public appearances.

Who Is Isaac Hayden McHale?
Isaac Hayden McHale is a member of the family of Joel McHale, widely recognized for playing Jeff Winger in Community, presenting The Soup, and starring in Animal Control. His mother, Sarah Williams, has been married to Joel since 1996.
The couple has two sons. Their eldest, Edward, was born in 2005, while Isaac was born approximately three years later. In a January 2026 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Joel described Isaac as his 17-year-old son.
Although Isaac appeared alongside his family at public events while growing up, he was not regularly discussed as a professional entertainer. His later television credits changed that picture slightly, showing his direct participation in his father’s industry.
Isaac Hayden McHale Acting Appearances in Animal Control
One of the biggest boosts to Isaac’s public profile is his role in the American comedy series Animal Control.
The FOX sitcom stars Joel McHale as Frank Shaw, an animal control officer whose difficult personality creates many of the show’s workplace conflicts. Joel also serves as an executive producer.
Isaac has appeared in two documented episodes of the series.
Isaac Hayden McHale 2025 Appearance
On March 6, 2025, Animal Control aired the ninth episode of its third season, titled “Retrievers and Fruit Bats.”
The episode follows Frank and Victoria as they seek support for an outdoor kennel initiative, while another storyline involves Shred and Isabelle pretending to be married.
Production cast records include Isaac McHale in a small role credited as “Boy.” This appearance established a documented screen credit for him, rather than simply another appearance beside his father at an entertainment event.
His 2026 Appearance
Isaac returned to the series in season four.
The episode “Bats and Camels,” broadcast on April 2, 2026, lists Isaac McHale as playing a character named Brendan. Apple TV’s cast information independently confirms his involvement.
In this episode, Frank and Templeton compete for the endorsement of a respected animal control officer, while Emily faces complications involving Shred’s romantic life.
The appearance added a second television credit to Isaac’s record. Nevertheless, two guest appearances should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of an established full-time acting career.
What Joel McHale Has Said About Isaac
Joel McHale has occasionally shared stories about his children during television appearances and interviews.
In February 2024, he discussed raising his sons on Getting Grilled with Curtis Stone. The interview, reported by People, highlighted the humor that frequently shapes their family conversations.
Joel described both sons as highly sarcastic and said they regularly joke at his expense. One example involved Isaac teasing his father about whether audiences still considered him relevant.
These anecdotes offered a lighthearted glimpse into the father-son relationship. They also showed that Isaac was familiar with his father’s entertainment career and comfortable joking about it.
During his January 2026 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Joel also discussed Isaac’s participation in an episode of Animal Control. That acknowledgment directly links the family’s public comments to Isaac’s recorded television work.
Isaac’s Relationship With His Parents and Older Brother
Isaac grew up in a household closely associated with American television and comedy. His father has worked across sitcoms, entertainment programs, hosting assignments, and film productions.
His older brother, Eddie McHale, has also occasionally appeared in Joel’s parenting interviews.
When reading celebrity-family coverage, it’s important to distinguish between the two brothers. Some online profiles confuse their identities or incorrectly describe Isaac as the eldest child.
Reliable interviews consistently identify Eddie as the older brother and Isaac as the younger son.
Joel has discussed parenting decisions involving Eddie in considerable detail, but those comments should not be automatically attributed to Isaac. Treating the brothers as separate individuals is essential to an accurate account of the family.
Is Isaac Hayden McHale Pursuing an Acting Career?
Isaac’s appearances on Animal Control show he has worked on professional television productions. However, publicly documented credits do not establish whether he intends to pursue acting as a long-term profession.
There is a difference between appearing in a television series and announcing a professional career.
At present, the strongest available evidence is his two-episode credits and his father’s public acknowledgment of his involvement.
Claims about future projects, professional representation or long-term ambitions would require further confirmation.
For readers interested in Isaac, his actual screen credits are more informative than unsupported predictions about what he might do next.
